Is Television News Still A Good Way - 1219 Words

Is television news still a good way to obtain solid information? When it comes to television news, most people would agree that they believe they are receiving good, reliable information. However, the media that the public sees and hears today is a lot different from what was reported about eighty years ago, a time when Edward Murrow was covering World War II through the radio and sharing unbiased news around the country. There is a filter amongst each television network that is shielding the public from need to know news; during the three nights there was about five minutes of news coverage that is considered need to know information. Nevertheless, the person, who were familiar and told to the CNN Money that after filing the lawsuit, the bank has launched the reviews. After that, the scandals of the Wells Fargo were takes place at the national level. After that, the requirements for the settlements of the L.A. with the banks for alerting the customers of the California and told the customers that review their accounts and if the customers does not recognized their accounts or do not want then shut down the accounts (Cable New s Network, 2016). Evaluation of action The Wells Fargo does not have the contributions regarding the social issues, which affects the operations of the company. The banks deals with those customers, which have the various views and that customers has most welcomed in the banks. The bank also hank through the scandal of the fake accounts and the bank will pay $4.1 million for the settlement of the charges of the Justice Department and seized the 413 cars, which has own by the service members that does not have any court order, the violation of the federal laws. The department of the Justice said that from the year 2008 to 2015, the illegal repossessions take place. The Army of the National Guardsman from the North California complains against the Wells Fargo that they seized their car for the preparation of deploying the Afghanistan. The bank auctions the car and tries to collect the amount of the $10000 from his family. The Wells Fargo will pay the $10000 to every members of the affected service; additionally they will al so pay to the lost equity for the cars along with the interest and repairs their credits (Hearst Corporation, 2016). As per the theory- what is right or wrong? As per the consequentiality theory, the bank does wrong actions and the employees as well, because only to achieve the target of the sales, they actually fool the customer, which is not right. However, according to the non- consequentiality theory, they perform their duty and beat the target. The company should learn from their mistakes. It takes time to learn from the mistakes , then commit the mistake that have done and after that decides whether to ignore that mistakes or to lie or to own that mistakes. For the long-term benefits, the company should own that mistakes. This will help to get proceeds in the above life and in the markets. In order to own the mistakes, first recognized that mistakes and apologize. This will help the company to earn respect from the surrounding as well as the trust. In case, if the company covers the mistakes or lie upon it then situation will get worse and may be it cannot even handled by the company. So it is better to accept the mistakes that the company does and taking care that mistakes will not done at the further stage. After recognizing the mistake and apologize, it will help the company to take action for fixing the mistakes. The action, which has taken by the company, only those, can decide that the company is seriously feeling th e regret and want to change the mistakes, especially in case of the scandals, which is the large mistakes of the company and it harms many customers. Therefore, the action should be effective for the correction of the mistakes and it should be equal or even larger than the mistakes done by the company. The company should take care about the mistakes that have conducted by any employees or nay department. There should be proper investigation for the anticipation of the mistakes and make the plan about to handle them (Sarhan, 2016). Consequentiality theory It is the result of the action, which has based on the moral judgment. This theory involves: Egoism The action is right morally only if the agents promotes long-term interest and that agent would be individual person, organization, a group, or a country. Utilitarianism The action is right morally only if the outcomes are good in large amount and that affects the people. Non-consequentiality theory It is the theory of the moral judgment, which has not based on the outcomes of the actions but on the principle that follows by anybody. It has three forms: Kant It is not depends on the facts and it is a moral reasoning. According to this theory, the actions of humans has motivated by either reasons or happiness. The happiness of the individual are differ from person to person, it is either good or bad. Virtue theory It analyzes the choice of the individual of the rightness or wrongness, which is in terms of its character. It is the choice of an individual between the right and wrong. Conclusion As the legal actions has taken against the Wells Fargo, thus in the future the bank will have to send the confirmation email to the customers for opening any deposits accounts within an hour along with the application acknowledgement. The bank will also give the status letter about the decision for the credit card after submitting the application. However, all the customers should check their accounts as well the statements regularly for the dummy account opening or any other discrepancies. This practice is ethical for the customers; even they are busy for running the business and raising the family and other kinds of the things. The customers will know the balance of the chequebooks and will make sure that they have the money in their accounts for the transactions. The other benefits is that they will know the there does not have any unauthorized accounts and secured from the theft. The customers also checked the credit reports regularly. If the consumers perceive any reimbursement, they can suit the file against the Wells Fargo with the CFPB (Market Watch, 2016). References Cable News Network.(2016). Media And Pornography Essays (2542 words) - Pornography,

Media And Pornography It started by way of messengers and scribes, evolved through the presentation of newspapers and radio, brought us together with television, and now serves us world-wide via the ever-popular Internet. It is the mass media, and even from the earliest days of its existence, it has contributed greatly in ways that both enlighten and enrich society, and ways that deteriorate and perplex it. It is not a surprise to learn, then, that the mass media is the most powerful source of information we have, and nothing else in today's world influences public perception quite as heavily. Unfortunately, however, most of what is broadcast or transmitted in the news today is with reference to the chaotic condition of our planet, or something else that society as a whole sees as detrimental or damaging. But the news on television is not the only type of media taking the criticism of society. Other forms of mass media, specifically movies and television programs containing pornography and violence have been heavily criticized. The underlining concept to be debated here is that society is negatively influenced, specifically, by these images of pornography and the result is increased violence against women. This assumption, and it is indeed only an assumption, is completely fallacious, however, as no concrete and completely conclusive evidence has ever been formulated in support of the theory. The key premise here is that the mass media does not cause undesirable social behaviour and in actuality, the media people should not be dubbed as the ?bad guys?. They simply use their power in the most constructive ways possible in order to promote their ratings and popularity. One way to do that is to concentrate on what sells: sex, violence and disaster. Having said this, why is it then, that many in society still believe otherwise; why do they continue to believe that pornography is ?evil? and is a major cause for violence against women, specifically rape? There are many reasons for this misinterpretation and through the following few points, an attempt will be made to show that pornography has very little to almost no correlation with violence against women (of course nothing is ?absolute? in society). In order to demonstrate this, it must be made evident that pornography is not ?evil? and does not cause undesirable social behaviour by displaying nude women in sexually explicit circumstances. Thus, it is important to indicate that women are not treated only as sexual objects through the media. This is done in an attempt to quash any traces of ?evil? in pornography. Subsequently, a second point, that some may consider to be completely bizarre, can be addressed; that pornography actually reduces the amount of violence against women. For thousands of years, sex itself has been considered ?evil? and revolting. This is exactly why the concealment of the sex organs and teaching feelings of shame toward human sexuality is so common worldwide (Christensen 1990:4). These same feelings of shame are the chief reasons that sex is considered a personal and private matter. Contrary to the beliefs of many, the mass media did not create these settings; society creates this image. In some societies, women have no reservations with regard to living their entire lives completely naked, while in other societies, females cover themselves from head to toe, only revealing their eyes. The media has been bombarded with criticism, overwhelmingly from the female community, relative to the amount of sexually explicit material that is published in magazines and that appears on television and in the cinemas. A common argument against pornography is that the media portrays women as being nothing more than sexual playthings and objects to satisfy male sexual desires. As before, the media once again, is not to be held responsible for creating this image; these views are products of society. It would be downright absurd to assume that women in this society are treated as sexual objects only because the media releases or broadcasts pornographic material. A magazine associated with make-up and skin care, for example, will quite obviously not be concentrating on much else. Such a magazine would not display pictures of women who mountain-climb or women who water-ski; only images of make-up and text referring to skin care would be relevant. Clearly, society does not consider women to be beings who's only purpose in life is to worry about make-up and skin care; but why are the complaints only directed towards pornographic media then? The answer to this question may be more complicated,

an upgrade in ethics essays

an upgrade in ethics essays The resurgence of ethics has been a striking phenomenon in the past decade. Although ethics has always had a role in the healthcare field, only in recent years has it become a subject of intense interest and controversy. In addition to others, this interest has affected a variety of other fields as well, in particular, philosophy, religion, social sciences, and law. Ethics are more than just high quality morals. Using ethical knowledge, attitude, skills, and habits require intellect, and finesse to properly apply them in the professional organizational life. Reasons for increased societal focus on ethics in organizations are many. Insider trading on Wall Street; defense contract scandals, involving private and public sectors; rental car repair overcharges; and resignation of over 100 Reagan administration officials have helped to keep ethical issues in the public eye. What I want to do in this presentation to give you all some valuable information to stimulate your own ethical aspe cts that you may already have and to upgrade your present ethical intentions. The problem that I would like to focus on here is the current ethical dimension that seems to be present in most of the professional organizations. It seems to me that there are those health care managers that do not even want to think ethically or that they just have a greedy streak that runs through them. Alternatively, there are those that just have a low ethical intensity. To me this reminds me of an issue-contingency matter where there is simply a lack of information on ethical aspects being flowed in their direction. On the other hand, they are simply ignoring, as if wearing blinders, the high standards that they now need to implement into their professional life. Ignoring ethical thinking will only hurt you or your company in the end. If you or someone you know is found to have been unethical in the past, ...

English - Global environment issue Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

English - Global environment issue - Essay Example Environment is a global concern globally because every individual contributes to the climatic changes in one way or the other. Even if, countries have been disagreeing over unequal distribution of natural resources, they are misusing the little that they have to the expense of the entire planet. The climatic changes are enormous; the planet is warming up, and there is an overpowering scientific harmony that is occurring and human-induced. With global warming on the rise and animals and their habitants on the decline, chances for ecology to adapt innately are diminishing. Many experts have agreed that climatic change might be one of the biggest dangers facing the earth. Individuals play a role in the global climate change. This is because they make wrong choices concerning what energy to use. For instance, they choose fuels, which emit poisonous gases. They also use cooking gases, which have elements harmful to the environment. Therefore, the first thing individuals ought to undertake is to evaluate their own devotion to sustainability. This involves trying to understand; what the effects of resource usage are, how ecosystems operate, and the knock-on impacts of activities in their daily lives like water, work, vehicle use, and entertainment activities. Devotion to sustainability involves sharing of common vision and goals for enhanced quality of life, instead of selfishness where people try to exploit recourses before other people can, until resources are consumed entirely, everybody suffers. Furthermore, corporations should be responsible for global environmental issues. Companies especially those in the production sectors emit gases which affect the environment. They are the main cause of the ever-changing climate and, therefore, they should take responsibility of preventing the environment from further damage. Corporate responsibility supports a vision of business responsibility to different stakeholders. The main areas are the welfare

Large of numbers of people really leave home because of environmental Essay

Large of numbers of people really leave home because of environmental problems - Essay Example The environment is one of these developments that are influencing the movement of people from their homes. The environment encompasses a number of factors in it including climatic change (Schipper and Pelling, 2006). Most of these environmental factors are natural, and human beings do not have the ability to prevent them. The effects of these environmental factors are so severe that they force people flee their homes. The United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) recent reports indicate that the number of environmental refugees has increased suggesting the severity of this matter. The factors that force people to move away from their homes can be summarized into two broad categories. These broad categories are climatic change factors and natural disasters. Climatic change accounts for the majority of environmental migration cases (Afolayan and Adelekan, 2009). Global warming affects the ecosystem, which leads to drying up of rivers and other sources of water. Individuals have no access to clean water to sustain their life. Others whose livelihoods come from farming have no water to irrigate their lands. Lack of water will force people to move to other locations that have adequate water. Climatic change affects health, availability of food and water, the ecosystem and the coastal regions, which affect the settlements of individuals. Food is a basic factor that is necessary for the survival of human beings. Most people especially in Africa depend on farming to provide them with food. Weather and climatic changes in some regions are becoming increasingly unpredictable nowadays due to degradation of the environment (Ezra, 2001). Individuals will move to other areas that are productive in terms of farming. Some areas are prone to diseases due to the environment. For instance, cold areas are breeding sites for mosquitoes. Rainfall causes development of swamps in some areas. These swamps create breeding sites for mosquitoes. Places

Immigration Reform Essay Example for Free

Immigration Reform Essay Immigration reform is a widely debated topic that affects the lives of every citizen whether they are for, against or indifferent to the issue. The United States needs a new immigration policy that is based less on wishful thinking and more on realism. Spending vast sums of money trying to enforce arbitrary numerical limits on immigration that bear no relationship to economic reality is a fool’s errand. We need flexible limits on immigration that rise and fall with U.S. labor demand, coupled with strict enforcement of tough wage and labor laws that protect all workers, regardless of where they were born. We need to respect the natural human desire for family reunification, while recognizing that even family-based immigrants are unlikely to come here if jobs are not available. And we need to create a pathway to legal status for unauthorized immigrants who are already here so that they can no longer be exploited by unscrupulous employers who hang the threat of deportation over t heir heads. The impact on ethics regarding immigration reform is that there are many Americans who object to providing health care to those who are in this country illegally and they make the principled point that people who violate the immigration laws of this country have forfeited any moral claim to assistance and should not benefit from their illegal behavior. They also argue that providing those here illegally with access to regular health care will as a practical matter have the undesirable effect of increasing illegal immigration. On the other hand the principled argument in favor of including illegal immigrants in health reform is that decent health coverage is a basic human right. A just nation should support that right for everyone, regardless of why or how a person is in the country. There are also practical reasons to support including undocumented immigrants in health reform. Ethics aside, there is no pragmatic way to deny emergency care to illegal immigrants The impact on morals regarding immigration reform would be how does the issue of immigration reform sits with your mores and values. Should the Christian Values of treating others how you would like to be treated be used? Many Liberals would like to change the laws on immigration to strengthen border security and be fair to taxpayers but also include a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are in the country illegally. Conservatives would like  to strengthen the existing laws and see that the immigrants that entered the country illegally are deported even though in most cases it would cause the break-up of families as some members may be here illegally and some may be either naturalized or citizens by birth. The things to consider when reviewing how Immigration Reforms would impact our lives is: What are the costs of securing our borders? The current estimate in the costs of securing the borders is $40, 000 per illegal immigrant and the impact it would have on the families and economy of those that live in the border cities would be devastating in terms of loss jobs and revenue. This does not take into account the amount of money spent to hire and train new Border Patrol Agents and drug dogs; using the National Guard and their equipment, and building a fence which places the cost at about 90 billion dollars a year. What are the costs of detaining immigrants? According to the American Civil Liberties Union the cost of detaining an illegal immigrant is between $122 -$164 a day. Should illegal immigrants receive help with medical and food? This is an ethics and moral issue concerning decent human treatment. Though it would place a heavy strain on resources and the economy some type of system should be set up with a limit on how often an illegal immigrant could use the services until citizenship is granted and a repayment plan is instituted.

Cell phones are a means by which individuals are able to communicate with others that are not present. However, the fascinating characteristic of the cell phone is that it allows the personal and private act of talking on the phone to take place in public, around complete strangers. As a result, the cell phone has various roles as a mode of communication; whereas one may use the cell phone simply to ensure connection and communication with people not around, others may treat the cell phone as a mechanism used to display a specific attitude towards outsiders. Evaluating Business Communication Essay

This paper includes the perception of four communiquà ©s. This type of perception is a description of whether these reports are accurate, ethical, and in the correct format. This paper gives a description of the form of leadership and the accuracy of the reports in this type of leadership. When writing a business communiquà © an individual has to consider several variables. The purpose, audience, and leadership type of the company has to be considered when reporting on a decision. This paper includes the review of the four communiquà ©s and shows decisions on reports where or not they were accurate, and correct in the reporting styles used. Below is the breakdown of this opinion on the reports. In this paper, there are four communiquà ©s that were reviewed which consisted of an e-mail, letter, formal report, and a memo. These reports conveyed that the acquisition in question should not proceed. This report includes the reason for not continuing in all the reports, and the correct format of informal or formal was used in each. It is considered that the formal report to the company Chief Executive Officer was the correct format, but the letter, e-mail, and memo could have been replaceable for sending this information to the marketing manager, accounting peers, or sales manager. On the other hand, since these reports were written by the staff accountant and the accounting manager, it made each of these employees equal in position to the people they were corresponding with, therefore the informal report was correct. The reports could be improved by several ways. One way is to include the numbers of the operating expenses and sales that are mentioned, and the other would be an explanation of the phantom inventory that the staff accountant believes is being reported. This would be an important point to add. Statements of profits and losses are included, but there is no informatio n to back the information up. Thus, it would be very important to understand exactly what the accounting staff has found. Too little information is used in each of these reports. When writing these communiquà ©s, it is believed that since the company employees use the democratic style leadership and most have helped with this decision, that the final decision for the recommendation will expectedly come with many recipients of these communiquà ©s, so the way these reports are formatted is acceptable and does not represent a style different from the company style. Students also looked at ethical implications of sending this information through reports in the company. This information is important and ethical to send, because these reports are for employees who are involved in the acquisition of the company. At the same time, each report must include the information has to be kept confidential within the company only. This could result in a lawsuit if the other company is affected and decides to find another buyer in the future. In conclusion, the reviewed communiquà ©s were complete in the information that needed to be explained, did not have any information that was not necessary, and was in the correct format for each intended recipient.
